BURSARY CASE STUDY
Fife College
Eight Fife College Tourism students benefited from a bursary awarded by the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland to encourage students with a bright future in the Scottish Hospitality and Tourism Industry with the aim of continuing to make Scotland an internationally renowned and quality destination.
Fife College used the bursary to fund scholarships judged on academic achievement, financial need and students’ commitment to studies and tourism in Scotland. As well as supporting the students financially the scholarships also recognise individual achievement and help to build student confidence.
Steven Kerr, 16, from Glenrothes studies NQ Catering. He plans to purchase a set of knives and bakery equipment to allow him to improve his skills in this area.
Linda Howard, 35, from Dunfermline is in the second year of her HND Events Management course. She plans to spend her award on textbooks, software for her computer, and to pay for additional courses such as Food Hygeine.
Fiona Milne,33, from Windygates is studying for an HNC in Professional Cookery and leads a cookery class for primary age children at a local school. She plans to undertake extra courses with her award and fund childcare costs to allow her to gain valuable teaching experience.
Ryan Graham, 16 from Dunfermline is studying for an NQ in Catering. He plans to use his award to buy a set of knives, uniform, and attend additional courses to help him achieve his ambition to be a chef.
Helena Dalrymple, 20, from Thornton is studying for an NQ in Holiday Representatives. She intends to upgrade her computer and buy course-related software, as well as funding driving lessons to help with future career plans.
Stephanie Horan, 18, from Kirkcaldy is on the NQ Flight Attendants and Holiday Reps course. She plans to purchase a new computer and software.
Ashley McMillan, 17, from Cardenden is studying for an NQ in Holiday Reps. She plans to use her award to fund additional classes in Spanish, repairs to her PC, and textbooks. Her future goals are further study and a career in the flight industry.
Lindsey Methven, 19, from Leven is a second year HND Events Management Student. She will use her award to help with trade magazine subscriptions, textbooks and software. Her career goals are to become a self-employed wedding planner.
